Dear sister to the late Bernice Till and sister-in-law to Shelia Chadwick. Irene was the special aunt to Susan, Annette, Terrance, and John.

In 1938, Irene started volunteering with the British Red Cross the age of 17.  She then pursued her degree in Nursing where she became a State Registered Nurse. She held many titles and positions throughout her career. She continued to add to her knowledge and skills by becoming certified as a Health Visitor and Clinical Teacher. Irene also earned the title of Queen's Nurse which was awarded to those Nurses who demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice. She would eventually hold the titles of District Nurse, Domiciliary Midwife, Junior Night Sister Maternity Unit, Deputy Night Superintendent in the Obstetric Unit and finally a Nursing Officer In-Service training until she retired in 1979.  She continued her volunteer service aiding those who were terminally ill and those who suffered with mental health. Irene and Harry moved to Canada in 1992 to be close with their daughter and grandchildren. She resided in Lindsay and continued her volunteer efforts with Ross Memorial Hospital as a Hospital Auxillary, Palliative Care Hospital Visitor & Home Care. She took on the role as co-ordinator for St. John Therapy Dogs Lindsay Division. When she wasn't volunteering she was busy crocheting clothing for dolls to fund raise for various charities and little hats for the premature babies in the neonatal unit.

Cremation will take place and a private family scattering service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. If desired, a memorial donation to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Unit or the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes would be appreciated by the family.
