Obituary for Joseph James Lucas

LUCAS, Joseph James – It is with regret that we share the sudden passing of our dad, Joseph James Lucas, born in Downeyville, March 26, 1931.  Joe was married to the late Glenys (née O'Brien), and later to the late Jean (née Dickson, formerly Perry). Joe and Glenys had 6 children: Joe (Sherri), Jane, Anne (Mike), Janet, Jim (Lisa), and the late Dan.

Joe was the eldest of 11 children brought into this world by James and Belle Lucas of Downeyville, who are now both resting in peace. He was a beloved brother to Charlie (Anne), Jean Doyle (the late Bernie), the late Leo, the late Jimmie (survived by Linda), Marg Murphy (the late Crawford), Mary Smith (Reg), Ed (Joanne), Cathy Caton (the late Dave), Dan (Susie), and Mike (Sharon).

Lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Jean O’Brien (the late Lorne). Dad will be missed by many nieces, and nephews.

Pa had 7 grandchildren: Cory, Bryce, Adam (Adele), Kristen, James, Laura, and the late Justin, and several great-grandchildren.

Dad worked at C.P.R. for 38 years, then in his retirement started working with Dempster’s Bread, Peterborough, well into his 70’s until he permanently retired. He was a very dear friend of Brian Kent, and his wife Delores.

Dad will be remembered as the biggest Hab’s fans ever and lived in his Montreal clothing. He was a major sports fan of the LA Dodgers, Dallas Cowboy’s, and Tiger Woods.

His love for family and friends will be missed, as well as his sense of humour. He loved to laugh, have a game of cards, and a cold beer.

Visitation will take place at the Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay on Wednesday, May 15th from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm- 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Luke’s Church, Downeyville on Thursday, May 16th at 11:00am. Interment to follow at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Downeyville. If desired, a memorial donation may be made to The Knights of Columbus 8911 (Downeyville Hall Renovation) would be appreciated by the family.

Dad, you will be missed by many.
