WALTHER, Lutz – December 31, 1942 – January 25, 2022 ~
With great sadness we say goodbye to Lutz Walther. After a short and difficult battle with terminal Mesothelioma of the lungs, Lutz passed into a peaceful sleep at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, he emigrated by boat in October 1953 to Montreal and then ultimately settled in Toronto, Canada. He graduated from Danforth Tech and loved his part-time job as a lifeguard at the Granite Club. Scarborough is where he built his life and home for his family ever since. He is predeceased by his parents Karl and Erna Walther, his brother Bernd (Sharon McKenzie), William and Elizabeth McFadyen (in-laws) and Alan McFadyen (brother-in-law). He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife and soulmate of 54 years, Elizabeth (nee McFadyen) and his children Tina Foster (Tony) and Kevin Walther. Opa will be forever missed by his amazing grandchildren Shaelynne and Keegan Foster; and Benjamin and Jillian Walther. He loved you all to the moon and beyond. He is survived by his many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including William, Hughie and Charlotte (McFadyen) and Elva Walther. He will also be missed by his wonderful extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His neighbours and "Donshire Court" family will miss his sense of humour and helping hands. These friendships gave him many joyful memories and have been a tremendous support during this difficult time. He was a constant fixture on the front lawn and the soccer dad who always was up for a game of scrimmage in Kirkdene Park. If a neighbour or friend was out and about, he always took the time to talk and share a laugh. Over the past 30 years, Log Chateau Park has become a second home to us. The friendships and memories of the golf and horseshoe tournaments, dances, and other special events will forever hold a special place in Lutz' heart. Many other long-time friends from school and those we have gathered over the years will be cherished in a way that cannot be truly expressed in words. Lutz worked for most of his life at Laura Secord on Birchmount Road in Scarborough. He was an extremely loyal and hard-working person. He made many work friends and remembers fondly playing cards and sharing time with you all. He loved people, camping and travelling with his family. We have many wonderful memories camping at Lake St. Peter Provincial Park. Lutz loved this family time, swimming, fishing and nightly campfires. It speaks volumes that as a family we looked so forward to this time together. Even when given the chance to do something different, the kids always chose this vacation over any other options, well in to their early 20's and beyond. The family would like to thank everyone and to especially express their gratitude to the numerous Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff who helped Lutz on this journey. Special thanks goes out to Dr. Penelope Bradbury (Princess Margaret Hospital). Lutz had a unique love for life having been a previous cancer survivor. He greatly appreciated the care he received at the various hospitals he attended during his most recent battle. He is especially thankful for the assistance provided to him with his end-of-life care at home.
As per Lutz' wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service.
