Obituary for Margaret Susanne McColm (MacLaren)

McColm, Margaret Susanne (nee MacLaren) ~ Oct. 3, 1936 – Nov. 14, 2022 - Margaret passed away in Peterborough, Ont.  Predeceased by her husband David, son Robbie, and her special friend John Telfer. Beloved mother of Laurie (Sandra), Susan Beaumont (Paul), and the late, Robbie (Rose).  Grandma to Jennifer (Russell), Erin, Charlee (Kevin), Laura (Shaun), Stephanie, and Chelsea.  Gigi to Anneka, Henry, and Grayson.

Margaret was born in Montreal and was raised in eastern Canada. Going to U.N.B. in Fredericton, she proudly stated that she met her husband on the first day and became U.N.B.’s first Engineering Queen and tells everyone that she went to U.N.B. to get her M-R-S.  With the love of her life, they moved from Fredericton to the Ottawa/Aylmer, Quebec area where they raised their family. Together, they built a family that gave them great joy. Margaret was a devoted wife who took great pride in her husband and taking care of all the household needs.

The children have many memories: watching Mum’s car racing past the school bus so she could make it home before the children, baking cookies, entertaining with appetizers, her love of pink and her Pink Vibrations lipstick, and always taking care of everyone! Moving to Mississauga was a difficult move for the two of them and shortly thereafter, David became ill and passed away. She became an active member of St. Stephen’s on the Hill United Church, enjoyed her bridge groups, going to the theatre, a bit of golf, lunch with friends and even took up modeling.

After an accident in 2014, Margaret moved to Peterborough to be near family and she began meeting new friends. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, and friend who always put others before herself.

Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life. Mum, we all love you so much and you will be missed.

A private family service will be held at the Stoddart Funeral Home, Lindsay on Friday, November 25th at 11:00am. Friends and extended family are welcome to join the livestream service.

Intmemory of Margaret, donations may be made to St. Stephen’s on-the-Hill United Church, Alzheimer’s Society or Mount Sinai David McColm Cancer Fellowship.
