Obituary for Morley Duncan Daynes

Daynes, Morley Duncan ~ May 20,1939 - November 12, 2022 - It is with sadness that the Daynes family announces the passing of Morley following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, but grateful he is no longer in discomfort.  We rejoice in the hope that we will see him again, and in the knowledge that he is in the presence of Jesus and his loved ones gone on ahead.

Morley was the son of Duncan Daynes and Florence Paudash, the eldest of four children.  He was predeceased by his sister, Marlene and brothers, George and Don.  Morley was the beloved husband of Ann (née Walker) for 60 years, loving father to Dan (Carolyn) and Kim (Ken) and cherished Poppa to grandchildren, Jacob (Katie), Ali, Ethan (Ally), Joshua and Matthew.

Morley loved life and people and had a great sense of humour. He played the guitar and had a wonderful singing voice.  At 18 years of age, he started work at Visking, his hiring rumoured partially due to Visking needing a pitcher for their ball team, as Morley had an impressive arm.  He was mainly a printing press operator and lead hand but worked hard at many different jobs in the Visking plant, rarely missing a day’s work over the next 40 years until his retirement.  Morley loved playing sports and was competitive in every sense of the word, whether pitching ball, as a hockey goalie, bowling or coaching various teams.  He was a proud member of Hiawatha First Nations and built a home there when he retired in 2001; serving on Band Council and working at the gas bar quickly earned him many new friends, and he loved getting to know each one.

Central to Morley’s life was an unwavering testimony to the transforming power of the Gospel.  Invited in 1972 to a service at the People’s Church in Toronto, he heard how God loved him and sent his son, Jesus to die on a cross for his sins.  He went forward and dedicated his life to the Lord, and there was a marked transformation that followed.

Morley’s family will be forever grateful for the loving care he received at Extendicare Nursing Home Kawartha Lakes.  Visitation will take place at The Salvation Army, 51 Eglington Street, Lindsay on Saturday, November 19th from 2:00pm until time of funeral service at 4:00pm. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.  Donations may be given to the Salvation Army Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
