Obituary for Shirley Anne Cave (Sutton)

Our hearts are aching as we tell you of the passing of Shirley Cave (née Sutton), June 1, 2022. This wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother will be missed by all who knew her but especially by her son, Mark (Melissa) and her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Wayne (2004) and son, Paul (2021). Shirley was born in Toronto on May 9, 1941, to Ivor and Beryl Sutton. She was the younger sister to Barry (Marilyn).

After spending their early years together in Toronto, Wayne, Shirley and Paul moved to Lindsay. Mark arrived shortly after to complete the family.  This is where they first became involved with OPS Minor hockey that continued for many years.  Shirley started her career as an RPN at Victoria Manor where she became president of CUPE local 1167. A staunch supporter for employee rights, she was a force to be reckoned with. With this position, she traveled all over the country and made some great friends. Shirley was well known for her political position and was always up for a good debate. Later, Shirley would spend many hours running the roads, especially to the East Coast and a lobster dinner. Her family and friends were very important, and she cherished the memories made around her table.

In keeping with Shirley's wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 6th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00p.m., and on Tuesday, June 7th from 10:00am until time of funeral service at 11:00am. If desired a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Shirley’s presence will not fade, it will be remembered by everyone she touched, with her indomitable strength, compassion and firecracker spirit.
